Lull was a book project that was brought to my attention as a way of spreading awareness for people with depression. The book outlines the similarities between the slowness and solitude of winter with the battle in living with depression. I was tasked with visualizing this story in an interesting way. I landed upon relating depression to the underpainting of a portrait. As the painting progresses throughout the book, the underpainting (or the depression) never leaves the person, continuing to lay under the skin. The finished portrait at the end showing those layers throughout.
